It’s a scorching hot day. You’ve got the air conditioner cranked and still your home isn’t cool. You walk over to your vent and discover that your air conditioner is blowing warm air and you wonder, what could be wrong?
Have You Changed Your Filter Recently?
Changing your air filter is the single best maintenance step for your air conditioner that you can do on your own. Filters are inexpensive and easy to install. But how could a dirty filter cause your system to blow warm air? First, a dirty filter restricts airflow. When this happens, your air conditioner’s evaporator coil can get too cold and the condensation that forms on the coil can, ice up. When your coil ices over, it creates an insulation barrier that inhibits the heat transfer process even more. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Remember to regularly change out your filter. Need a new filter for your system order it here.
Is The Problem Localized?
Is the warm air that’s coming from your air conditioner’s vents just in one room or area? If so, a duct leak is very likely your problem. Since you probably can’t see your air ducts or at least the bulk of them, you will need to call a HVAC company. A technician can locate and fix the leaky duct.
Is It A Refrigerant Leak?
The evaporation of refrigerant in the evaporator coil allows your air conditioning system to remove heat from the air that passes over the coil. If there is not enough refrigerant in the system, then your air conditioner will not be able to remove heat successfully. This is another situation that can result in an icing over of the evaporator coil.
An inadequate refrigerant level will not only prevent your air conditioner from properly cooling the air inside of your home it will eventually destroy your system. Again, this is an issue that needs to be left to the pros. A technician can locate and fix the leak. They will then add the necessary refrigerant to get things cooling.
What Do You Do First?
So, if your air conditioner is blowing out warm air, the first thing you want to do is check your filter and if it’s dirty then change it. Hopefully, this is all that will need to be done to remedy the issue and you can handle this yourself. If changing your air filter doesn’t do the trick, then you will need to get in touch with an HVAC company to schedule service
